Best Blush and Lip Colors for Mature Skin:

As a makeup artist I work with a huge range of face shapes, colors, and ages. I love color and how it can create a feel on the skin. What I have learned over the years is that I tend to reach for warmer toned colors in most of my work. I believe that warmer tones create a freshness and youthful appearance on the skin. This is a great tool to make a mature skin look more alive.

A warm toned blush color for example enhances the warmth in a person’s skin and therefore brings a freshness and healthiness to the face. A cool toned blush can create contrast which would give the skin a paler look. When I’m working with mature skins whether it be on-camera or off, I love to use peach and warm rose tones for the cheeks and lips. Here are some of my favorite blush and lip colors for mature skin and tips for getting it on.

peach glow gorgeous cosmetics Gorgeous Cosmetics Blush in “Peach Glow” is a great alternative to Nars “Orgasm” as it has much less shimmer in it and a bit less red. It is well pigmented so a little goes a long way. Great also for that “pop” of color. Tip: Use a fat brush.

I love “Tulip” by MUD and actually carry it here in The Shop. This is a cream blush and so goes on bare skin or after foundation and before powder. The cream consistency allows for the color to look more real on the skin. For many faces I place Tulip on and then after powder/set add a pop of the Gorgeous “Peach Glow”. Tip: Apply cream with your fingers and keep it blended.

mudsoftpeach This is a powder color by MUD called “Soft Peach” which is also an excellent warm tone for mature skins. It has no shimmer quality at all so is good for HD and for skins that might need a matte.

softcherrygraft This is one of my favorite lipsticks, Graftobian makes a creamy lipstick that stays on well. This color is “Soft Cherry” and although it isn’t super warm, it has some warmth and looks great on.  I love to use this as a base and add OCC Lip Tar in “Memento” on top. It makes for a bright beautiful lip that isn’t too much. YSL Rouge Volupte Shine “Pink in Paris” is pretty on light skins and has a very creamy texture. I also like “Mega Melon” Chubby Stick by Clinique. This is great for a natural bite of color and goes in the purse easily. Tip: To prevent bleeding fill in the lips prior to color with a neutral lip liner. I like Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Liner in 1C or 2C.

Hope this inspires you to try some new colors. Remember when working on a mature skin, keep it soft.

Until next time, Terri Tomlinson Makeup Artist Dallas TX.
